What is a Death Doula?

As you may have guessed based on the name a Death Doula is someone who provides educational and emotional support to people transitioning from this life.


Also known as End-of-life Doulas and Death midwives they have a wealth of knowledge on the options that their clients face relating to end of life and funeral planning and the training to help their clients (and their families) as they grieve the loss of life and possibilities.


Death Doulas can go about providing support in many ways. Each of them unique to the person and family. Just a few of them being: help their clients to prepare recordings or letters for their relatives to open during major life moments, make detailed plans for their funeral and burial to ease the stress on those left behind, and make plans for how they would like their environment to feel on their death day. Many Death Doulas also provide spiritual support to their clients so if that is something you would like enquire with the doulas around you about these services.


When to hire a Death Doula?

To get the most out of your experience with a Death Doula it is best to hire them as soon as you think you will need them. The insight and support that they provide is irreplaceable as you navigate the possibilities dealing with end-of-life care. They can be the solid stone of comfort during a time of tumultuous emotions and hard decisions.
