What is a Postpartum Doula?

A Postpartum Doula's goal is to help their clients settle into life in the 4th trimester with few difficulties as possible.
They provide information and support when it comes to infant feeding, healing and recovery from birth, coping skills, etc.
They are also often willing to do basic household tasks such as preparing easily digestible meals, laundry, and cleaning/sanitizing bottles and pumps. They can also help siblings adjust.
Some postpartum doulas work for a predetermined amount of time or number of appointments and others provide continued support. Most charge an hourly rate. When looking to hire one of these doulas be sure ask them what sort of support they offer and their rate.
When do you hire a Postpartum Doula?
It is easiest to hire or at least interview your potential doula before you have given birth that way they are able to provide support from the very beginning of your postpartum period. However; postpartum doulas almost never have this as a requirement. If you have given birth and are wanting support REACH OUT. They will happily support you.
